This site is dedicated to the memory of my dear friend, Steve, whose love for nature and all its creatures was boundless. Steve's special affection for hognose snakes was a testament to his deep connection with the natural world.
In 2021, Steve not only shared his knowledge but sold us three hognose snakes. He was a patient and passionate teacher, with the dream of passing on the art of snake breeding. His guidance and enthusiasm were invaluable as he began to teach us the intricacies of snake husbandry.
In 2022, Steve's world was shaken by the loss of his beloved brother. Faced with this profound loss, he started to worry about the future of his cherished snakes. It was during this time that he approached us with a heartfelt request: "If anything were to ever happen to me, would you care for my snakes?"
In September 2023, we lost Steve to a sudden and unforeseen blood clot. It is now our solemn promise to honor his legacy by caring for his beloved snakes and continuing his passion for breeding these magnificent creatures. In doing so, we keep alive not only the memory of Steve but also the spirit of reverence for nature that he so passionately embodied.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Your love for the natural world will forever inspire us.
Why Papasnakes?
As I reflect on the journey that led me to become the caretaker of these magnificent snakes, I can't help but think back to my childhood. My grandfather, a gentle soul with a profound love for turtles, used to have them in his backyard. Each morning, he would set out food for them, and they would make their way onto his porch to enjoy their meal. To distinguish him from other grandparents, all of us grandchildren affectionately called him "Papa Turtles."
Little did I know that years later, as I became a grandfather myself, I would inherit these beautiful snakes from my dear friend. Even more surprising was when my granddaughter, Oakley, began calling me "Papa Snakes." This unexpected nickname touched my heart, reminding me of the special bond I shared with my grandfather, even though he had passed away many years ago.
Over time, my other grandkids adopted this unique moniker, and I became known as "Papa Snakes." It's a title I cherish, as it connects me to cherished memories and the legacy of my own grandfather, who instilled in me a love for the wonders of nature.
And let's not forget my wife, who has lovingly earned the nickname "Grandma Snacks" for always ensuring there are plenty of treats and smiles when our grandkids come to visit. Together, we are a family united by love and laughter, bound by the remarkable creatures we care for and the memories we create.
